St Kilda have decided not to offer former Essendon tall Josh Eyre a spot on their list for 2023 after training at the club since December.
Eyre, who was drafted to the Bombers in 2020 but didn't play a senior game, trained with the Saints in hopes of earning a spot through the pre-season Supplemental Selection Period, the same avenue as former Blue-turned-Saint Liam Stocker.
The 20-year-old suffered a hamstring injury at training earlier in the week as the Saints' luckless run with injury rolls on. Eyre was sent for scans to determine the severity of the injury, but was informed by the club he would not be offered a list spot.
David Misson, Acting General Manager of Football Operations at the Saints, thanked Eyre for his time with the club, stating that Eyre's recent injury had not influenced the club's decision.
“We'd like to thank Josh for all he has put in during his time at the club,” Misson told club media.
"Throughout his time with us, we've done our best to be transparent with Josh as to which way our decision would fall as we know this process can be a stressful one.
"Ultimately we have chosen to keep a list spot available at this time.
"While Josh recently injured his hamstring at training, this had no bearing on our final decision.
"We've offered Josh assistance from our medical team as he recovers, and look forward to exploring VFL options with Josh moving forward."
The Saints announced the signing of Stocker through the SSP back in January, but still have one list spot available before the February 15 deadline.
They can opt to hold the vacancy for the Mid-Season Draft.
