Hard-nut St Kilda skipper Jack Steele is firming to return for Sunday's afternoon encounter against Carlton at Marvel Stadium after a speedy recovery from a broken collarbone.
The 27-year-old sustained the injury during the side's Round 2 matchup against the Western Bulldogs, initially ruling him out for up to four weeks.
Steele isn't the only senior Saint to put his hand up for a return to the Senior side, with sharpshooter Tim Membrey vying for selection after playing in the VFL last weekend.
Membrey had an interrupted pre-season with a knee injury sidelining him for the opening month of the season.
His inclusion will be good timing for the Saints, with first-year player Anthony Caminiti serving a three-match ban as the Saints contend with a makeshift forward line without spearhead Max King, who is still recovering from shoulder surgery.
In other news on the club's injury front, Jack Billings and youngster Isaac Keeler could make their returns via the VFL if they get through training unscathed.
Speaking to the club's website Acting General Manager of Football David Misson said it's a relief to start getting players back as the Saints deal with the league's longest injury list.
"It's pleasing to finally be welcoming some players back from injury," Misson said.
"Steeley is the heartbeat of our team and I know that the boys will be very glad to have him back, should he pass all his requirements this week."
"Similarly it's great to see Jack and Isaac, who have both had lengthy stints on the sidelines, closing in on their returns."
Meanwhile, Zak Jones is edging closer to a return after suffering an Achilles setback during the pre-season.
St Kilda will face Carlton at Marvel Stadium at 3:20pm on Sunday.
