Bulldogs star Lachie Hunter could be a target for rival clubs during the upcoming trade period, according to veteran journalist Caroline Wilson.

Hunter has had an unsettled year, beginning with a COVID breach during the AFL shutdown period which saw him suspended for four games and stripped of the vice-captaincy.

The 25-year old also had to take a leave of absence to address personal issues.

According to Wilson, the Brisbane Lions are keen on the gun midfielder.

“Another big-name player who has been linked to the Brisbane Lions, although they deny it, is Lachie Hunter,” Wilson told Footy Classified.

“I suspect he will play senior footy this week, (he) wanted to play last week, but was sent down to the twos and there was a disagreement over whether he had a calf injury or not.

“He wanted to play and said ‘alright if you’re not going to play me in the seniors I’ll play in the twos’.

“Brisbane has denied that they have interest in Lachie Hunter, I’m not sure whether that is right or not, but they feel if he was to leave the Bulldogs it would be to a Victorian club.”

Hunter is expected to return to the Bulldogs’ side to take on Adelaide this Sunday.

Hunter is contracted with the Dogs through to the end of 2024.
