Star defender to return for finals

Less than nine months after rupturing his achilles, Zac Williams, 23, will take part in Greater Western Sydney's Elimination final against Sydney, according to Adam Curley.

The running defender has not played an AFL game this year, but has collected 67 disposals over two matches in the NEAFL.

When Williams ruptured his achilles, the Giants were forced to push Lachie Whitfield onto a back flank, a move that resulted in Whitfield being named to the All-Australian side after a fantastic year.

However, Williams brings a dynamic line-breaking ability that the Giants will utilise alongside the clinical Whitfield for the finals.

Barring any setback, when Williams takes the field on Saturday, he will be the first player since debutant Andrew Hooper in 2010 to play his first AFL game of the year in a final.

Williams will bring a fast-paced attitude to try and dismantle Sydney who look to dictate pace and momentum.

Alongside Williams, coach Leon Cameron will have to consider the potential consequences of including a host of returning players such as Brett Deledio, Toby Greene, Ryan Griffen, Aiden Corr and Matt De Boer.
