Star defenders facing a race against time

Intercept kings Jeremy Howe (Collingwood) and Jeremy McGovern (West Coast), are battling injuries in a race to be fit for the Grand Final.

Howe, whose ankle was injured in a tackle by Daniel Rioli during the Preliminary Final win, returned later in the game, but was noticeably limited.

Despite being cleared of significant damage, the Magpies witnessed the consequences of selecting a player who was less than fully fit, in Richmond's Dustin Martin, on Friday night.

Similarly, the West Coast defensive star, McGovern, failed to train on Monday, after receiving a knock to his hip in the demolition of Melbourne on Saturday.

His influence could be crucial in stopping the form of 211cm Mason Cox, as well as the dashing penetration of Collingwood's midfield.

Regardless, the form of the two Jeremy's may be the deciding factor in what shapes to be an electrifying Grand Final.
