Star Giant Jeremy Cameron it set to depart the club as a free agent.
The 27-year old informed the Giants of his desire to explore free agency, with the Herald Sun's Jay Clark reporting he has nominated Geelong as his club of choice.
The Cats have reportedly been chasing Cameron for the last two years as Hawkins’ long-term successor, with the pair set to line up together in 2021.
Giants General Manager of Football Jason McCartney confirmed that Cameron would depart the club, but that they would seek adequate compensation.
“We are disappointed by this news, having tabled what we believe to have been a suitable offer to retain Jeremy," McCartney told the club website.
“With Jeremy being a restricted free agent, we have a number of avenues to now explore to get the best possible outcome for the Giants.”
As Cameron is a restricted free agent, the Giants will be able to match any bid he receives.
The key forward booted 76 goals in 2019 to claim the Coleman Medal, but only kicked 24 goals from 17 games in 2020.
