Star Geelong recruit Jeremy Cameron will miss his side's season-opening clash against Adelaide after re-injuring his hamstring at training.
AFL Media's Mitch Cleary first reported on Friday morning that the gun forward's setback in a significant blow to the Cats.
"Breaking - Jeremy Cameron OUT of Geelong’s clash with Adelaide tomorrow. Re-injured his hamstring," Cleary tweeted.Â
The Cats have since confirmed the 27-year old's injury on the club website.
"Geelong forward Jeremy Cameron will miss the start of the 2021 AFL season after suffering a hamstring strain at training," the statement reads.
"The 27-year-old Cameron felt a twinge at the end of Wednesday’s session and a scan revealed the strain."

Cats general manager of football Simon Lloyd said Cameron would miss at least the first two weeks.
“Jeremy has started his rehabilitation program but will not be available for at least the opening two rounds,” Lloyd said.
Cameron has endured an interrupted pre-season after hurting his hamstring at training in late January but returned to play in both of the Cats' pre-season games.
Cleary reports that scans have revealed another strain, leaving the 27-year old sidelined for the foreseeable future.
The spearhead has a history of hamstring problems on both legs, meaning you would expect Geelong to take a very cautious approach with its boom recruit.
The Cats gave up three-first round pics to acquire Cameron from the Giants in the trade period.
Geelong and Adelaide face off at 4.35pm at Adelaide Oval on Saturday, with official line-ups to be announced at 6.20pm tonight (all times AEDT).
