Dane Rampe is set to co-captain the Sydney Swans in next month's AFLX tournament.

Sydney are widely tipped to field a young and inexperienced team with Josh Kennedy, Lance Franklin, Dan Hannebery, Isaac Heeney, Heath Grundy and Kieran Jack set to be rested.

With current captain Josh Kennedy easing back into the pre-season, Rampe and fellow vice captain Luke Parker look set to rotate the captaincy role throughout the games.

When trialed at Swans training, Rampe was a standout in a game with fast transitions and not many stoppages. After the game Rampe gave an insight on his thoughts of the new format.

"There was a lot of fast transitions and not many stoppages, so that's something you've got to adapt to and deal with," Rampe told reporters on Monday.

"We're still getting a feel for it, so we'll probably have a quick look at it the week before we play and go from there.

"For this time in the pre-season it's a good opportunity to experience something different and hone your skills."

One player that stood out was new draftee Tom McCartin, who showed immense aerial ability and some impressive ground level skills throughout the trial even though the format is very much suited to the smaller players.

Rampe has been impressed with the tall swan throughout the preseason, heaping praise on the youngster.

"I really like the way Tommy has gone about it" Rampe added.

"I don't know if it's the benefits of growing up with older brothers, but he looks ready madeโ€.

"That's probably a little bit too much pressure to put on him but he looks comfortable with the physicality of it, and I think that's a big tick for someone coming in so young.

"Obviously it's going to be a pretty hard team to break into, but we've really liked what we've seen so far."

In other news, Jarrad McVeigh looks like he will get a full pre-season under his belt for the first time in three years, which has put him in a good position to feature in their round one encounter with the West Coast Eagles.

The Sydney Swans will face the Western Bulldogs and the Gold Coast, at Allianz Stadium on February 17.
