The first AFL delisted free agency window of the year opens on Friday morning, with culled players on the lookout for a new club over the next month and into summer ahead of the 2025 season.
Delisted free agency presents a chance for players to be signed to the primary lists, with this window giving clubs the option to swoop on players who are without contracts ahead of the AFL Draft.
Multiple deals landed on Friday, with Collingwood unveiling former St Kilda forward Tim Membrey on a two-year deal as the first move of the window. The 188cm attacker - who is a three-time leading goalkicker for the Saints - lands at his third AFL club with a move to the black and white, having started his career with Sydney.
Membrey isn't the only departed Saint to have garnered Collingwood's interest, with mature-aged recruit Jack Hayes also reported to have undergone a medical at Olympic Park. With the Magpies signing Membrey, a move for Hayes is less likely.
Geelong have signed axed Carlton forward Jack Martin following his luckless run with injuries at Princes Park also.
The Cats had already confirmed their intentions to acquire Martin, who will hope for a more fortunate run when he dons the hoops from 2025.
The aforementioned Hayes could find a home elsewhere this off-season, with the draft windows and the pre-season's Supplemental Selection Period also offering chances for career lifelines.
Culled Port Adelaide forward Quinton Narkle is a strong chance to join Fremantle, who have confirmed their interest in potentially acquiring the former Geelong player. It's likely Narkle makes his move via the SSP however.
His ex-teammate, Tom Clurey, has also left Port Adelaide following the 2024 season despite having a contract for next year, with the veteran defender having his desire to explore opportunities elsewhere granted by the Power following a dozen years at Alberton Oval.
Clurey had been linked to West Coast prior to his Power departure, with the Eagles pouring cold water on a trade for the backman during the player movement window. His delisting might be what was needed to pave the way for Clurey to join West Coast, who lost Tom Barrass during the trade period.
Brisbane are a chance to use the delisted free agency space to find a replacement for retired spearhead Joe Daniher, with cut Gold Coast veteran Sam Day linked to a move up the Pacific Highway to the Queensland capital.
Day managed to kick 10 goals from five games this year while balancing injury and form setbacks. He brings 155 games of AFL experience, having been an inaugural player for the Suns.
The Lions could confirm a move for Day via delisted free agency or acquire the Sturt junior via the Rookie Draft or SSP.
Day's ex-teammate Hewago Paul Oea will be invited by the Suns to train for a list spot over the summer following his delisting, with Carlton pair Matt Carroll and Sam Durdin set to do the same with the Blues.
Essendon are weighing up a similar move for axed swingman Kaine Baldwin ahead of the 2025 season, with the Bombers a club also keen on former Brisbane backman Jaxon Prior and ex-West Coast defender Josh Rotham, who could land at Tullamarine as a delisted free agent or join Baldwin as an SSP chance.
Cut Carlton midfielder Jack Carroll has garnered reported interest from West Coast, Fremantle and GWS, with the latter also said to have shown some level of intrigue in ex-Saints defender Ben Paton.
Ex-Hawk Denver Grainger-Barras, former Roo Curtis Taylor, Geelong premiership pair Brandan Parfitt and Gary Rohan, and axed Melbourne backman Adam Tomlinson are others who stand a chance to find a new home via delisted free agency.
14 players have been delisted under the promise by their clubs that they will be selected back onto the list via the Rookie Draft on November 22.
That list consists of:ย Darragh Joyce (Brisbane), Darcy Craven (Brisbane), Oleg Markov (Collingwood), Ashley Johnson (Collingwood), Max Knobel (Fremantle), Lachlan Keeffe (GWS), Josh Fahey (GWS), Jacob Wehr (GWS), Jack Gunston (Hawthorn), Toby Pink (North Melbourne), Brad Crouch (St Kilda), Aaron Francis (Sydney), Joel Hamling (Sydney) and Mate Colina (Richmond).
