The mammoth AFLW trade period has seen another big name change colours, with Gold Coast captain Hannah Dunn becoming the latest player to join an expansion club.
The 30-year-old played 24 games across her three years with the Suns, serving as captain since 2021.
The defender spent two years out of the game after being delisted by GWS in 2017 after just one AFLW game before being picked up by the Suns with pick 22 in the 2019 AFLW Draft.
Gold Coast's Head of Women’s Football Fiona Sessarago thanked Dunn for her service to the club.
“Hannah has played a large role in our AFLW program over the last three seasons, including taking on the responsibility as captain for the last two years,” Sessarago said.
“Hannah’s leadership has developed immensely since she joined the club and we are extremely thankful for her efforts in establishing the foundations of our AFLW program and driving the culture and standards within our group.
“Although it is unfortunate to see Hannah go, we were prepared for the possibility to lose players during this expansion period and are pleased to have been able to retain the young core of our playing list for next season.”
Dunn was grateful for her time at the Suns, thanking her teammates and Gold Coast fans for their support.
“It’s been an honour to wear the SUNS jumper and lead such an inspirational group of players for the last couple of seasons,” Dunn said.
“This club and its people will always hold a special place in my heart, it has been my home away from home and the people have become my family.
“To my teammates, who were there for me through the highs and lows, as a team we’ve created history and made so many incredible memories which I will be forever grateful for.
“Thank you to all the supporters and partners for believing in us and showing up to support us no matter what.”
On joining Port Adelaide and making the move to South Australia, Dunn admitted that the allure of joining a big club was a drawcard to sign with the Power.
“I’ve lived in Adelaide before and I loved it so I’m excited to be back,” Dunn said.
“The program Port Adelaide is building is amazing and that’s one of the things that really attracted me to the club.
“Being around an amazing club with such a rich history is so exciting. It's also so cool being in a footy state – people in South Australia just love footy and I can’t wait to be a part of that. The fact that there’s such a big fanbase here and they care so much about the club, I think that’s really exciting to be able to experience that.”
