Thompson was set to play a leading role in defence this season after the departure of former captain Steven May. The 28-year-old played 17 games in 2018 and 103 since debuting in 2011.
22-year-old Wigg has yet to make his debut since crossing to the Suns from Adelaide in 2017. He was tipped to play a big role for the club before injuring his ACL.
