Two days until the 2017 AFL season kicks off and there's probably only a handful of players currently in our team who will make the final 22 come Thursday night.
As is usually the case, we'll be chopping and changing our line ups until they get locked in for the round so who should we be selecting before the bounce.
These guys (among many others) don't need any introduction, it's just a matter of which combination to pick.
Dangerfield. J Selwood. S Mitchell. Treloar. Kennedy. Fyfe.
These guys will perform all year. You won't be sitting at the computer for hours on end wondering if they are worth picking, unlike the second tier of midfielders you select.
Supercoach is all about getting your risky choices correct. No doubt there is a bit of luck involved and you've got to ride it when you've got it.
Brisbane's new captain Dayne Beams has been cruelled by injuries since his move up north but appears to be fit and firing in 2017. Beams averaged 109.5 in the JLT series and for a player worth $432,500, you may struggle to find someone better.
Hawthorn's star recruit Jaeger O'Meara has the potential to average 100+ this season and at $318,900, that has to be worth the risk, doesn't it?
His JLT hit out saw him average 75 with two 90+ scores and should that form continue, his stocks will rise quickly. A nice little cash cow in the Hawthorn midfield.
After successive seasons of an 100+ average, Scott Selwood has been bugged by injury the past two years and will start the 2017 season in the same fashion. He is in Geelong's best 22 but may struggle to hold consistent game time if his replacements flourish in the early rounds.
At $281,800, he is worth consideration but there are probably better options out there with a little less risk.
Another player in the same price range is Gold Coast's David Swallow. The former number one pick has played just two games in the past two seasons but appears his body is ready for a bigger output this season. If he reaches the heights of his 2014 season where he averaged 103 - or anything remotely close - coaches can be happy with his output.
Risky choice, but who isn't at this price?
Sam Powell-Pepper!
Get this kid in your team, at least for his name if not for his footballing ability.
SPP might not set the world on fire early, but if his JLT series is anything to go buy, he'll just get better and better as the seasons goes on.
Has the ability to rise in value very quickly.
