Sydney Swans assistant coach Don Pyke has confirmed his interest in taking up West Coast's soon-to-be vacant chief executive position.

Incumbent CEO Trevor Nisbett, a long-standing veteran in the prestigious role, announced this week he would be stepping away from his responsibilities upon the expiration of his current contract in October 2024.

Pyke, who currently deputises to Swans senior coach John Longmire and coaches alongside premiership Eagle Dean Cox, has previously been tied to Collingwood's then-vacant head-coaching position following his departure from the Adelaide Crows coaching mantle in 2019.

The 54-year-old coached the Crows to a Grand Final appearance in 2017 before joining the Swans in the Harbour City in 2021.

Pyke now appears prepared to take the next step in his career, though not in the senior coaching realm.

Instead, he seems set to try his hand as Nisbett's successor as the Eagles' new CEO.

Speaking via The West Australian, Pyke, who played for the Eagles between 1989-96, confirmed his interest in applying for the position, dependent on some factors.

"I've spoken to the club. The announcement on Wednesday is that Trevor is not going ahead after next year and I was asked if I was interested," Pyke said.

"I have some interest depending on what the role and the process entails and in my eyes what they're looking for because it's got to match all parties."

Nisbett, who will remain at his post until late next year, is expected to play an instrumental part in choosing his replacement.

The Eagles' search for their new CEO is understood to be in its infancy.
