The Sydney Swans have appointed Shane Lehane as the club's new head of athletic performance.

The 39-year-old is originally from Ireland and was previously the lead strength and conditioning coach of the Melbourne Rebels for six years before joining the Swans in 2021.

Before his current promotion, Lehane was an athletic performance coach for the club.ย

Swans football manager Leon Cameron said Lehane had demonstrated a clear dedication throughout his current tenure.

โ€œSince arriving at the club several years ago Shane's professionalism, work ethic and appetite for high performance has been first class,โ€ Cameron said.

โ€œI congratulate him on his appointment and look forward to working with him in 2025 and beyond.โ€

The Swans' healthy injury list was one of their biggest strengths through to their Grand Final appearance this season - with just captain Callum Mills missing from their best 23.

Lehane takes over a role vacated by Rob Inness who has joined Carlton as their head of high performance for the 2025 season.

Prior to joining the Swans in 2021, Iness was the strength and conditioning coach for Richmond during the club's three premierships in four yearsย

Lehane will officially begin with the club on November 1
