Sydney has announced they have reached a record 75,000 members on the morning of the 2024 AFL Grand Final, fittingly in their 150th year as a football club.

CEO Tom Harley revealed the momentous occasion, topping its previous record of 65,332 in 2023.

The record membership continues a successful era in the modern game, expanding its growth when the club moved from South Melbourne to the Swans in 1982.

Harley spoke on the significance of the milestone reached by the club and what it means to reach such an achievement.

โ€œOur footy club has come a long way from relocating to survive, to where we are today, having welcomed more than 500,000 people through the gates of the SCG this season. It's a testament to the vision, resilience and commitment of our true believers,โ€ Harley said.

โ€œTo reach our target of 75,000 members in our 150thย year is an incredible achievement and shows the passion of our supporters across our heartland in Sydney and South Melbourne, as well as elsewhere in Australia and abroad.

โ€œTo everyone who has supported our club by becoming a member this year โ€“ we thank you. We are humbled and grateful for your commitment.

โ€œOur men's team has put their best foot forward this year and now has the opportunity to contest for a premiership. Support from our members has played a huge role in helping the team reach this position and we look forward to hearing the red and white faithful in full voice at the MCG.โ€
