The Sydney Swans will reportedly undergo a major football department change, with footy boss Charlie Gardiner expected to step down as he moves back to Melbourne.
Ex-Giants coach Leon Cameron, who is GWS' longest-serving coach in their history, is expected to take the reigns as Executive General Manager after just one full season at the club as a talent and coaching director, according to SEN's Tom Morris.
It is understood that Gardiner, who joined the club in 2018 after a 63-game playing career with St Kilda and Geelong, will remain in Sydney's football department as a consultant for a number of matters, including list management and tribunal proceedings, but will do so from his home in Melbourne.
The news comes after the departure of assistant coach Don Pyke, who has made the move to become West Coast's CEO in a 2024 transitional period.
In his place, Mark McVeigh, who briefly undertook caretaker coaching duties upon Cameron's GWS resignation in 2022, will step into the vacant senior assistant coaching role at the Swans.
McVeigh joins brother Jarrad on Sydney's coaching front, leaving the Swans with a department led still by senior coach John Longmire and assistants Dean Cox, the McVeigh brothers and Ben Matthews.
