Sydney have confirmed a former first-round draft selection has been left to wait until "the dust settles" on the club's trade plans this off-season while ruling out potential moves for two other fringe assets.
Swans small forward Jacob Konstanty is still without a contract for 2025 after his first two years in the Harbour City, where he landed after being taken with Pick 20 in the 2022 AFL Draft.
The well-rated pressure forward and goalsneak has played 23 games at VFL level and is yet to make an appearance for the Swans' senior side given the ranks of Tom Papley, Will Hayward, Luke Parker and Sam Wicks at the front of the selection queue.
The Gippsland Power product has also battled with injury during his time in the red and white to delay his chances of a debut, while Konstanty has also been left to wait on a decision from the club on his playing future.
While clubs from his home state and across the competition are keeping an eye on the teenager's situation, the Swans are continuing conversations with his manager Dave Trotter over what the future might hold.
The club can't give a clear answer yet as they work through the early stages of the trade period, circumstances Konstanty is aware of.
"It's been a pretty frustrating couple of years for Jacob," Swans list boss Chris Keane said.
"We're working through that at the moment with him, it's probably a matter of where this sort of nine-day period ends up and where the dust settles as to what happens with him.
"But we're in constant communication with him and his management, and he knows to where it's atttack. So we'll see how that plays out."
Keane was happy to shut down the thought of Wicks or second-string ruckman Peter Ladhams potentially finding new homes this off-season as they remain out of favour under coach John Longmire.
Wicks played 16 games this year and saw his 2024 campaign brought to an end due to a lengthy VFL suspension and the return of Parker into the side.
The small forward has given the club no indication of a desire to seek opportunities elsewhere this year, with the club noting a positive exit interview that saw Wicks "fully invested" in the club.
Similar can be said of Ladhams, who struggled for game time in 2024 due to the arrival of ruckman Brodie Grundy. Ladhams played one match at AFL level this year and would be viewed by other clubs as a formidable ruck-forward target.
Keane relayed the Swans have received no indication from Ladhams, who is viewed as "a pretty valuable player" that he might seek a move.
"Not at all," Keane said.
"Pete's contracted and he's a really popular member of our footy club.
"To be honest, we're pretty comfortable with where our sort of ruck stocks sit at the moment. Obviously Grundy is there at the top, but Pete's a pretty valuable player for us, and we know he can play at the level.
"We've got two developing types in Will Green, which we invested a first-round pick in last year, and Lachie McAndrew as well. So Pete understands where it's at, and he certainly hasn't indicated to us that he wants to move."
While the Swans aren't likely to bring experienced talent into their squad this trade period, the club could still make moves surrounding their draft hand as they carry a pair of first-round selections into this year's count.
Sydney have Picks 19 and 22 for the opening night of this year's draft, with the NSW club in a "flexible" position that could see them trade up the draft order, remain, or push back.
"In terms of areas we might need to address, we might look to do that in the draft," Keane added.
"We're pretty happy with where we sit. We've got two first-round picks in this draft, and it looks like a really good draft and pretty deep.
"We spent the last three days chatting to the boys and they're a really impressive crop of kids. We're really excited for what we could bring you to our footy club. We know we need to get better and we'll try and do that.
"Where we sit, it gives us a license to be pretty flexible. We're pretty open-minded with what we can do. We'll look at all options to either come up or sit tight and take two players that we think are really good players that can add to our footy club.
"Equally, we could look at moving back or moving out. I think we've got a lot of options and no doubt where we sit is a really good spot in the draft. I think it'd be pretty sought after from other clubs, so we'll wait to see how it all plays out."
The trade period opened on Monday and will run until 7:30pm (ADST) on Wednesday, October 17.
