North Melbourne's initial trade offer for Sydney veteran Luke Parker has reportedly been rebuffed by the Swans as the two clubs continue negotiations.

Parker, a 293-gamer and former captain of the Swans, is seeking a switch to Arden Street this off-season despite having a year to run on his contract.

The Kangaroos are set to send draft capital to Sydney in exchange for the three-time best and fairest winner, with talks opening this week around a deal that will officially see Parker join the Roos.

North Melbourne have Picks 2, 25, 44 and 62 for this year's AFL Draft and have already parted with Pick 67 (now 68) to acquire West Coast veteran Jack Darling.

According toย AFL.com.au,ย the Kangaroos have offered their latest selection, Pick 62, for Parker - failing to appease the Swans with their initial package.

Pick 44 could be the selection that secures Parker, while North Melbourne may stump up a future third-round selection, which would likely fall in a similar range next year.

Pick 25 might be too much of an asking price for the Kangaroos, who also need to work with the Western Bulldogs to potentially acquire utility Caleb Daniel.

Daniel is contracted for the next two years and is four years younger than Parker, while both players found themselves on the outer of senior selection this year at their respective sides.

North Melbourne are unlikely to add to their draft hand by parting with players of their own, however the club is open to moving back from Pick 2 by splitting that selection into multiple later picks while still staying near the top of the draft queue.

The club could attain a later selection as part of that manoeuvre, which could help them unlock trades for either or both Parker and Daniel.

North Melbourne are still pursuing Port Adelaide's Dan Houston and have their future first-round selection on the table. Houston is anticipated to head to either Collingwood or Carlton however, meaning the Roos could use their earliest 2025 selection to strengthen this year's draft hand also.

The trade period closes next Wednesday evening at 7:30pm (ADST).
