The Swans and co-captain Dane Rampe have agreed to a two-year contract extension, with the important intercept defender cementing his future in Sydney until at least the conclusion of the 2025 season.

Prior to his re-signing on Wednesday, the 33-year-old Rampe was slated to become an unrestricted free agent.

The left-footed Rampe has played 221 AFL games since debuting in 2013, all of which have come in Bloods colours, with Wednesday's announcement enhancing the likelihood that Rampe will wind up a one-club player.

Sydney's Executive General Manager of Football, Charlie Gardiner, reiterated Rampe's importance to the club's cause, commending his ability to consistently perform at a high level among a talented Sydney outfit.

"Dane continues to be a very important member of our squad. He has shown remarkable consistency and durability throughout his career and continues to perform at a very high level," Gardiner said in a club statement.

"While Dane will continue to be an important member of our defensive unit, he is also an instrumental leader away from it. He is an outstanding leader, holds great relationships across our football program, and provides invaluable support for John (Longmire) and our coaching team."

Rampe stated his love for the red and white, noting the "unfinished business" he and his Swans teammates have after surrendering to Geelong in last year's Grand Final.

"I love the place, I'm really excited about the group, and where it's at. Obviously, we nearly reached the summit last year and feel as though there's some unfinished business," Rampe said.

"Being able to have 'Horse' (Longmire) as coach for such a long period of time is huge, he's a great mentor along with Jarrad McVeigh and Josh Kennedy as both captains I've played under and with, and they've really moulded me as a person and a leader."
