Melbourne veteran Tom McDonald has recommitted to the Demons for a further 12 months.

The new one-year deal for the 2025 season will see McDonald move into a 15th year in the red and blue, with the 31-year-old set to add to his 232 games for the club.

McDonald joined Melbourne through the 2010 AFL Draft and has featured in every season of his career, with injury and form in recent years limiting his time at senior level.

A return to the backline in 2024 saw McDonald slot back into a key role under coach Simon Goodwin, with the veteran swingman playing 22 games this year after amassing less than 10 appearances in three of his four prior seasons.

Before this year, McDonald last played in the backline in 2017, having successfully moved to the other end of the field the year after to lead the Demons' goalkicking with 53 goals in a breakout 2018 season.

โ€œWe're thrilled to offer Tom another contract, and extend his time as a Demon,โ€ Melbourne AFL List Manager Tim Lamb said in a club statement.

โ€œWe saw Tom thrive in his role down back this season, which is reflective of his elite preparation and hunger to contribute, no matter where he is on the field. It was fantastic to see him get some consistency in his game.

โ€œTom has given a lot to our club since walking through the doors nearly 15 years ago, and we look forward to what next seasons holds for him.โ€
