“If you want to know why Brendon Bolton isn’t there anymore, then your answer was evident on Saturday night.”

SEN analyst David King believes Carlton caretaker coach David Teague is getting the best out of key forward Charlie Curnow, despite the 22-year-old having a poor 2019 season.

Curnow had only booted 11 goals prior to Saturday night, before exploding for seven marks and seven goals against the Dogs.

“Let’s cut to the chase. If you want to know why Brendon Bolton isn’t there anymore, then your answer was evident on Saturday night,” King told SEN’s Whateley.

“Brendon Bolton never maximised Carlton’s number one, two or three asset in Charlie Curnow.

“If you have a look at the rest of the season under Bolton, he was targeted five times on average inside the forward 50 per game which is clearly not enough.

“The last two weeks – seven and nine targets inside 50.

“He took five marks inside 50 on the weekend. In the eight games under Bolton, he’d taken six marks inside the forward 50 in total.

“Something wasn’t right and we kept highlighting that it was being kicked inside 50 to Michael Gibbons and these sorts of players.

“The energy he brought with him is significant. When your big key playmakers take control of the game, things flow. It’s a momentum driver.”
