BACKLINE

Brandon Starcevich

One of the unsung heroes in the Brisbane defensive line, Starcevich takes another scalp.

While his stat line of 17 touches doesn't jump off the page, anyone that can keep Dusty Martin to 17 touches and no goals is worthy of a team of the week nomination.

Jordan Roughead

One of the defensive pillars of a strong Collingwood defence, Roughead kept Port players accountable all game.

Showing his instincts and read of the play, Roughead took 15 marks and 10 intercepts. He also finished with 21 possessions and was one of the main reasons Port Adelaide struggled to score all game.

Jordan Dawson

Dawson had a significant impact on the match collecting 31 touches to go with 10 intercepts and six marks.

His greatest impact was with the ball in hand, as he managed a game-high 711 metres gained, leading all players on the ground by over 200 metres. Performances like this explain why the Adelaide Crows are ramping up their pursuit of the 24-year-old defender.

Paul Seedsman

Seedsman was outstanding again finishing the game with 35 touches, 657 metres gained and eight marks having an impact all over the ground.

Paul is putting together a career year, averaging a career-best in both marks and disposals for 2021.

Bailey Dale

Bailey Dale was one of many who impressed in the Bulldogs domination of the Saints.

His 34 touches were impactful, evident by 1/3 of them (11) leading to score involvements and amassing 761 metres gained.

Zac Williams

With the best game of his tenure at the Blues, Williams was instrumental in Carlton's defence throughout the match.

Williams led all players with 764 metres gained, to go along with 26 touches and eight intercepts. The move back to defence was a big boost for the Blues and Williams. Hopefully, Zac is able to continue this confidence and form and live up to the contract he signed over the off-season.

CENTRE

Lachie Whitfield

Lachie Whitfield is showing why he is one of the Giants most important players. He was once again dominant in Greater Western Sydney's upset victory.

29 possessions, 10 marks, six score involvements and five intercepts showcase Whitfield's importance in both sides of the game, as he once again filled up the stat sheet.

Joel Selwood

Selwood produced his best game of the season, turning back the clock in a best on ground performance for the Geelong skipper.

With season highs in disposals (39), clearances (10) and contested possessions (17), Selwood could not be stopped as he tore apart the Suns all match.

Sam Walsh

Sam Walsh once again starred for the Blues, quickly becoming their best and most consistent player. Coming out blazing, Walsh dominated the first half, having 18 touches and a goal by the halftime siren.

While heavily tagged after the first quarter, Walsh still ended with 30 disposals, six tackles seven score involvements and eight intercepts playing another complete match damaging both on the inside and outside.

FORWARD LINE

Marcus Bontempelii

Is there anything that the Bont can't do? In a night where other midfielders were collecting huge disposal tallies, Bontempelli spent more time up forward finishing with four goals and 10 score involvements.

He routinely is one of the bulldogs best players and has become the new Brownlow favourite.

Aaron Naughton

The Astro-Naught was at it again, with the Saints having no one that could stop Naughton up forward.

Kicking his highest tally of the year 5.4, if he could have easily finished with an even bigger bag of goals.

Nat Fyfe

Nat Fyfe was back to his best, spending more time in the midfield after a few weeks predominantly up forward. He still made an impact while up forward, including this crucial late-game goal.

With a game-high 19 contested possessions and 13 clearances, Fyfe dominated the inside versus the Swans. If the Dockers allow Fyfe more time in the middle, expect more appearances in the team of the week for the remainder of the year.

Robbie Gray

In a low scoring match, Robbie Gray managed to break through the Magpie's defence. Finishing with three goals Gray's impact on the scoreboard was vital in a slim one-point victory.

To go along with 18 touches and six marks, Gray kicked Port Adelaide's first two goals of the match after the team being kept goalless in the first quarter.

Lance Franklin

Footy is always better when Buddy is playing, and this game was no exception. As he edges closer to 1,000 career goals, his haul of six majors showed what he is still capable of producing at 34-years of age.

Fremantle had no answer for the big forward, as Buddy finished with 10 marks, 18 disposals and 10 score involvements. Now on 963 career goals, he only needs a couple more bags to join some of the greatest ever forwards on 1,000.

Zac Bailey

Zac Bailey produced a career-high four majors, as the Lions keep on rolling through the competition.

Quickly becoming a human highlight reel, Bailey produced this effort ducking and weaving through a Richmond defence that had no answer for him.

FOLLOWERS

Brodie Grundy

After a year of ups and downs, Grundy put together one of his best performances of the season. While he always produces great stats, he dominated the ruck battle giving his teammates first use of the ball.

With 33 hitouts, 23 touches and a game-high nine clearances, Grundy proved that he is still one of the leagues predominant ruckman.

Clayton Oliver

While Petracca has gotten a lot of the credit, Oliver deserves just as much for the Demons historic start to the season. With one of the best game of ALL players this season, Oliver almost singlehandedly led his side to victory.

38 disposals (27 contested), 13 clearances, 11 score involvements, eight inside 50s, eight intercepts and three goals his stat line and impact on the game needs to be seen to be believed.

Darcy Parish

For the second week in a row, Parish produced a best on ground performance. He continues on with his career-best season, adding to his already stellar resume.

By the end of the night, Parish had 36 touches, 12 marks, 11 clearances, and 12 score involvements. He was the main engine in the middle, giving his forwards plenty of opportunities and allowing his team to dominate the Kangaroos.

INTERCHANGE

Jarryd Lyons

Lyons continues on with his consistent 2021 campaign, being one of Brisbane's best for yet another week.

By the end of the match, Lyons had six inside 50s, seven score involvements, five intercepts and 8 clearances to go with his 26 touches. If his disposal efficiency was higher than 61.5%, he could have made a bigger push for a starting position.

Ollie Wines

With many dominant midfield performances, Wines still managed to snag one of the bench spots. He has been putting together an under the radar season, being the general in Port Adelaide's midfield unit.

Instrumental in his team's narrow win, Wines got 27 touches, five marks, five intercepts and four inside 50s as he put together another classy game.

Rory Lobb

Rory Lobb was brilliant up forward as Fremantle shocked the Swans in their two-point win. Despite being pipped by Buddy for the starting spot, Lobb was the big target up forward that the Dockers have been needing.

Finishing with a season-high (and equal career-high) four goals Lobb was a force up forward. He also gathered 18 disposals, nine marks, five inside 50 and seven hitouts producing an all-around performance.

Bachar Houli

The ever-reliable Houli, was one of Richmond's best as the Tigers fell to Brisbane. He provided plenty of drive and rebound out of defence for the Tigers but struggled to find much help.

He ended the match with 27 possessions and seven intercepts.
