Team of the Week: Round 8

BACKLINE Brayden Maynard Was one of several Magpies defenders to lead the charge over the Kangaroos in what was a dominant outing for Nathan Buckley's back third. Ended his evening with 32 touches and 10 marks whilst using the ball at 81% efficiency. Darcy Moore Took 19 marks and 11 intercepts in his return to defence to give the Magpies their second win of the season. [player_widget player_id="darcy-moore" round="8" season="2021"] Moore was as commanding as ever as Collingwood's architect from the last line and offered plenty with the ball-in-hand with his explosive capabilities in his rebounding. Daniel Rich Having a significant impact on the Lions' season, in particular their latest run of form that has reignited their stake for the premiership. Another 660 metres gained has him placed second in the competition while also amassing another 30+ touches and 10 marks. Aaron Hall Is enjoying a strong past month despite the Kangaroos' continued winless run. Was key in keeping his side in the contest for a majority of Saturday's game, recording 37 touches, eight marks and over 900 metres gained. [player_widget player_id="aaron-hall" round="8" season="2021"] Jacob Weitering Was solid for the Blues against the league's best attack, matching up on Aaron Naughton for the evening. Clunked 13 marks and just as many contested touches in his had 23 possessions. Karl Amon Finds himself in our Team of the Week once again after another impressive performance, this time coming in the Showdown. Had an enjoyable day moving from defence to attack, collecting the ball on 27 occasions whilst boasting six marks, six tackles and five rebounds 50s. CENTRE Zach Merrett Despite the loss, Merrett was arguably best-afield against the Giants, adding plenty of opportunity for the Bombers moving forward. Ended his afternoon with 37 possessions, six marks and four clearances in a valiant effort to keep his team in the game until the final siren. Jarryd Lyons Is having some season and continued his sparking form against the Dockers on Sunday evening. [player_widget player_id="jarryd-lyons" round="8" season="2021"] Had 29 touches, 11 contested possessions, six clearances, nine marks and a goal in the win over Fremantle. Andrew Gaff Was instrumental within an undermanned Eagles midfield, gaining the pill on 38 occasions whilst also amassing 12 marks and 12 contested touches. Accompanied by Dom Sheed, the Eagles star was able to lead the Perth giants over the line against the Hawks in an important win away from home. FORWARD LINE Josh Kelly Despite playing less forward minutes than usual, the silky Giants onballer was still able to have a large impact on the game and on the scoreboard, booting two goals. Also chipped in with 30 disposals and 7 clearances as he continues to return to some red-hot form. Jeremy Cameron A massive game for Geelong's star recruit, booting 6.2 whilst also collecting the ball 22 times and taking eight marks. [player_widget player_id="jeremy-cameron" round="8" season="2021"] Would have enjoyed putting the Tigers to the sword after his 2019 heartbreak and will be hoping to continue on Friday's form. Jack Billings Was key for the Saints in their late comeback over the Suns, amassing 25 touches, 13 marks and two goals. Another all-round effort for the Saints' midfielders in a hard-fought, low-scoring victory, with Billings leading by example in the win in his rotation between midfield and forward. Brendon Ah Chee Stepped up for the Eagles between his shifts forward and in the engine room. Booted four majors to lead all goal-kickers for the game and accumulated the ball on 17 occasions as well as recording five marks and four tackles. [player_widget player_id="brendon-ah-chee" round="8" season="2021"] Tom Hawkins Was sensational alongside and Gary Rohan and the aforementioned Gary Rohan, with the trio booting 15 goals between them. Had 16 score involvements from his 20 disposals along with five marks inside 50. Jordan De Goey Returned to his trademark exciting brand of football against the Kangaroos, booting six goals and clunked six marks inside attacking 50. Can only hope he is permanently back to his best as the Magpies eye their third win of the season this weekend. FOLLOWERS Scott Lycett Had an up and down night in the Showdown given his dangerous tackle on Ned McHenry, but otherwise had a stellar evening. Led the game in hit-outs with 34 against Reilly O'Brien, whilst also recording 18 possessions, six tackles and eight contested touches. Marcus Bontempelli Perhaps the performance of the week after tearing apart the Blues in his side's stellar comeback victory. [player_widget player_id="marcus-bontempelli" round="8" season="2021"] Was immense for his side in the second half and ended his evening with 32 touches, 19 contested possessions, eight tackles, 10 clearances and a goal. Clayton Oliver Was key in the Demons' win over the Swans in a thriller and looks to have taken a big step in his duties in Melbourne's midfield, becoming a more versatile onballer in 2021. Had another 35 touches as well as five tackles, 10 clearances and 19 contested possessions. INTERCHANGE Tim Taranto A really strong four-quarter effort against the Bomber but marginally misses out on a starting spot in our midfield. Is having quite the season and continued his impressive campaign against Essendon with 29 touches, eight tackles, five clearances and a goal. [player_widget player_id="tim-taranto" round="8" season="2021"] Travis Boak Took home another Showdown Medal for his efforts against the Crows, recording 28 touches, 10 contested possessions and six clearances. Doesn't look like slowing down anytime soon and continues to offer plenty of strength and power to Port Adelaide's engine room. Josh Bruce Just edges out his Round 8 counterparts Harry McKay and Eddie Betts due to the fact his side took home the four points. Booted another five goals and clunked 11 marks in another dominant performance. [player_widget player_id="josh-bruce" round="8" season="2021"] Tom Clurey Solid as a rock in the Power's backline, keeping the in-form Taylor Walker to six touches and zero goals in the Showdown. Rose to the occasion on a night that many expected 'The Texan' to shine in and will now hope to add to the impressive outing.
