Whether it be a tactical integration taking shape over a number of years, a last-ditch effort to revive a player's career, or a short-term fix that turns into something more, AFL clubs are no strangers to the growing practice of a positional shake-up.

With the likes of Isaac Heeney, Rory Lobb, Nick Blakey, Kyle Langford and Ben Keays all transitioning successfully into new roles over recent years, we thought we'd delve into the biggest positional switches heading into the 2025 season.

10. Harry Sheezel

Defender to Midfield/Forward

Although it may be the least surprising positional shift on the list, Harry Sheezel's shift from a half-back to a midfield/forward asset feels the most nailed on to be a success.

The 2023 best and fairest winner largely continued to play in his usual sweeper role off half-back in 2024, however was at times seen lining up through the guts or further forward of centre.

Given his proven accumulation skills and nous in front of the sticks, there is little doubt over whether Sheezel will have an impact in a more permanent transition up the ground.

A move into the midfield could mirror that of Nick Daicos and a forward move would likely provide some much-needed relief for teammate Nick Larkey, with the big man constantly in need of someone to help balance out the Roos' goalkicking workload.

Sheezel's 36 goals in 14 games for the Sandringham Dragons is indicative of the elite attacking prospect North had initially drafted back in 2022.
