Whether it be a tactical integration taking shape over a number of years, a last-ditch effort to revive a player's career, or a short-term fix that turns into something more, AFL clubs are no strangers to the growing practice of a positional shake-up.
With the likes of Isaac Heeney, Rory Lobb, Nick Blakey, Kyle Langford and Ben Keays all transitioning successfully into new roles over recent years, we thought we'd delve into the biggest positional switches heading into the 2025 season.
5. Josh Daicos
Wing to Defender
2023 All-Australian wingman Josh Daicos looks set to fill the role younger brother Nick vacated following the end of the 2022 season.
With the recent acquisition of Harry Perryman and the expected emergence of youngster Ed Allan in 2025, Daicos' wing position appears to be in safe hands while he makes the transition into his new role at half-back.
The move will see Daicos line up alongside new recruit and fellow All-Australian Dan Houston in what is likely be the most damaging half-back duo in the league. This is largely due to the pair's elite kicking ability, a feature which has seen the two carve through opposing teams and set up goalscoring opportunities with ease.
With this in mind, the Daicos move could very spell danger for opposing teams and could play a major factor in Collingwood's resurgence in 2025.
