TEN hypothetical blockbuster AFL moves that could happen at season's end

With a plethora of big names set to come out of contract at the end of the season, we thought we'd hypothesise about some blockbuster moves. We've compiled a list of ten head-turning moves that could happen by year's end - some slightly more outlandish than others. We're not saying all of these will happen but believe they are all possibilities. We've also predicted a bombshell coaching acquisition for a struggling club. Here is our list of ten huge hypothetical end-of-season moves. DOWNLOAD YOUR COPY OF THE AFL SEASON GUIDE Alastair Clarkson is installed as Gold Coast's new senior coach After calling it quits at Hawthorn last year, Clarkson is every chance of returning to the AFL coaching landscape in 2023, and there might be an intriguing opening waiting for him. Gold Coast senior coach Stuart Dew is currently slated to come out of contract at the conclusion of this season, and there's no certainty he will be offered a new deal, especially if his Suns once again don't find themselves in finals contention. Clarkson would bring with him premiership pedigree and a mountain of experience, two huge things the Suns have lacked since their inception. The 21-year-old Woodville-West Torrens product would theoretically be going from one rebuilding club to another, but this time around, back in his home state, Lukosius may feel more motivated. The 30-year-old is an ever-reliable forward-50 target, but he can also push onto a wing and show off his polished disposal and even switch into defence if necessary, depending on opponent match-ups. De Goey undeniably fits that categorisation, and in the unlikely case the Magpies don't match an offer sheet for the forward, St Kilda could be a destination candidate. With ruckman Nic Naitanui nearing the twilight stages of his career and nobody else of note set to succeed him, 24-year-old English might be the perfect acquisition for the Eagles. DOWNLOAD YOUR COPY OF THE AFL SEASON GUIDE Angus Brayshaw joins brother Andrew at Fremantle Brayshaw, who is often found playing on a wing at the Demons, could get more inside opportunities alongside his up-and-coming brother, Andrew, especially with Adam Cerra now out of the picture and veteran David Mundy tipped for retirement at the end of 2022. Having achieved premiership glory and with Luke Dunstan now in the midfield fray at the Demons, the former No. 3 pick may feel inclined to call it quits at Melbourne and join his younger brother, who is poised for Brownlow contention in the coming seasons. Dunkley is apparently in no rush to re-sign with the Bulldogs, leaving the door very much ajar to a potential second Bombers swoop. DOWNLOAD YOUR COPY OF THE AFL SEASON GUIDE Caleb Daniel makes move to West Lakes With the Bulldogs having a bevy of star names currently off-contract at the cessation of this season, there's certainly food for thought that at least one of their unsigned stars could depart Whitten Oval as part of a salary cap squeeze. Jack Macrae, Josh Dunkley, Bailey Dale, Bailey Smith and Tim English all join Caleb Daniel in being yet to recommit for the 2023 season. With Daniel's links home to South Australia, the dead-eye defender could be one to take up potential interest from elsewhere in a move across the border. DOWNLOAD YOUR COPY OF THE AFL SEASON GUIDE Cats pounce on Carlton's Tom De Koning De Koning, a 203cm product of the Dandenong Stingrays, comes out of contract at Carlton at the end of next season, meaning the Cats would have to strike a trade with the Blues in order to reunite him with brother Sam. The 22-year-old has played just 22 games (including 13 in 2021) over three seasons at Princes Park, so it's hard to imagine the Blues driving a super hard bargain for the ruck-forward.
