It has been revealed that Australian pop icon Kylie Minogue could be the main act for the 2023 AFL Grand Final, however the singer has knocked back the league's first advances.

The AFL is hoping to back up what was praised as a crowd-engaging performance from Robbie Williams last year, who stole the show with classics including a cover of 'Your the Voice' by John Farnham and a special tribute to late Australian cricketer, Shane Warne.

According to 7 News Melbourne, the AFL is pushing for the Minogue to perform on the last Saturday in September, but Minogue had revealed little interest in performing at the Grand Final.

"The AFL is tonight targetting Kylie Minogue as number one on the hit list for this year's grand final entertainment," reporter Mitch Cleary said.

"Initial word from Kylie's camp was 'thanks but no thanks', but the thought tonight is that it could be rekindled. Keep an eye on this grand final entertainment."

Minogue is expected to release her next album on September 22, a date that will fall in the week prior to the AFL's season decider.

A decision on who will be performing has not been made yet, however, fans could know in the coming weeks as last year's headline performer Williams was announced in July last year.
