4. Roughead becomes Hawthorn captain after cancer scare
Four-time premiership player Jarryd Roughead was diagnosed with a melanoma on his lip in 2015, to which he recovered from before a sudden reoccurrence on his lungs in 2016, effecting his career and home life.
In 2017 it was revealed that Roughead would make a come back in round 1 after reportedly being told he was cancer-free.
The same year, he would be named Hawthorn skipper and explained how his time through ongoing treatments helped him become a better person.
"I thought footy was everything up until what happened," Roughead told the ABC news.
"Now I've gone through what I have, I understand footy is only going to be 15-16 years in my life in terms of playing.
"I want to live to potentially be a dad or grandad."
