The past decade has showcased the glorious highs and deflating lows of football.

The game of Aussie Rules is filled with ecstasy and agony both on the field and off it, testing the emotional strength of its fans.

Collectively we have compiled a list - in no particular order - of the most passionate, heart-breaking and compelling moments in the AFL from the last 10 seasons.

6. Alex Johnson's dream of AFL return shattered

Johnson made his long-awaited return against Collingwood in August 2018 following six years away from the field after multiple surgeries, infections and problems.

Unfortunately his luck ran out only eight days during his second game back, with the luckless Swan rupturing his ACL after only being on the field for 22 minutes.

This final injury left him being delisted by the Swans at the end of the 2018 season and ended his career altogether.

"It was just me, my mum, my dad and my sister," Johnson told Hamish McLachlan during the series Last Time I Cried.

"We just sat there and that's probably when it really hit me โ€ฆ this potentially could be it for me in terms of my career. When you're in the depths of the MCG, that's when you can let your emotions out a bit."
