Now that footy is over for the season, the focus turns to the circus that is trade period.

With clubs looking to make deals in quite possibly the most important trade period in recent memory, here are the 10 most interesting out-of-contract players.

2. Jake Carlisle

Talks of a renewed contract for Carlisle have been lingering for months, with no deal in sight it seems.

The key defender fell out of favour at times in 2020 and would be keen on remaining in Moorabbin for 2021 and beyond, however, if a rival suitor was to offer the 29-year-old greater job security, he could be willing to move on.

Carlisle has proven to be a formidable tall defender and would suit a number of competitors as a second or third-string key backman.

The Saints have also expressed their interest in adding height to either end of the field, adding to the speculation of doubt surrounding Carlisle's situation.

Speaking on their defensive structure last month, St Kilda list manager James Gallagher hinted the Saints may look to bolster their backline with height.

โ€œPossibly. Bit similar to the forward line. We played Dougal and Jake (Carlisle) most of the year and that combination seemed to work. Even in the finals, Cal Wilkie (did a good job). That is an area of the ground we may look to stiffen up with next year.โ€

โ€œHopefully get a resolution sooner rather than later. Weโ€™ve got a deal in front of him (Carlisle) with his management. Hopefully that gets sorted in the next few days or week."
