With the AFL season on the verge, it is time for Supercoach and Fantasy players to start getting their teams ready.

Who are the "set and forgets?", who is set for a breakout year at a very good price? What premiums do you need to have to avoid embarrassment?

We have you covered, going over who you need to have and why they will be so valuable to your team this year.

We haven't included rookies in this list, this is purely premiums and mid-priced players you need to have on field.

Sam Walsh

Supercoach Price: $543,300

Fantasy Price: $739,000

Walsh was huge last year and got better as the year grew. As a 20-year-old it's only fair to assume he will rise up another level in 2021 and by all reports is training very well. With more depth in the Carlton midfield this season it will surely allow Walsh more freedom to get his hands on the ball.

The Blues jet had a strong back-end to the season in 2020, scoring 114, 123, 98, 113, 132, 161, 84 and 119 after the bye.

Priced at $543,300 in Supercoach and $739,000 in AFL Fantasy, Walsh looks like a must-have for the opening rounds of the season.

Matt Rowell

Supercoach Price: $495,100

Fantasy Price: $574,000

Rowell was a must have last year and his first (and only) five games in 2020 showed exactly why. The 2019 No.1 draft pick averaged 102.4 Supercoach points in 2020, including a score of 6 against the Cats after sustaining a season-ending shoulder injury in the opening minutes of the game.

It's a large price tag for someone with only five games to their name, but he looks the goods, and is every chance to make you some money at the mid-way point of the season.

Zac Williams

Supercoach Price: $458,000

Fantasy Price: $626,000

Williams is the big money move for the Blues this summer. He has come in on big money looking for midfield minutes and is currently listed as a defender on Supercoach and Fantasy which is a huge plus. He will play through the middle and has scored really well in the past playing in the engine room.

If he can bring his best work consistently he will rise in price very quickly. And for those AFL Fantasy coaches, Williams also has the ability to become a dual position player once he plays more midfield minutes.

Lachie Neale

Supercoach Price: $721,800

Fantasy Price: $935,000

Yes he's expensive, yes he is really, really expensive. But, you must have him, because if you don't I guarantee you, your opponent will. Countless battles last year were won by people who had Neale and even more to those that gave him the C.

More suited to Supercoach players this year, Neale is worth every cent. There is no reason the Brownlow medallist will go backwards this year and it would be a brave player to leave him out of their side.

Tom Phillips

Supercoach Price: $402,600

Fantasy Price: $602,000

Tom Phillips may not be a name you expect to see on this list, but he is a very valuable asset. Mainly to Fantasy players, a reasonable price of just over 600k and a game style that suits the Fantasy mold.

Phillips will see a lot of midfield/wing time with Tom Scully now retired and having averaged 78.5 points in 2020 with shortened quarters and a reduced role, there's plenty to like. More minutes will suit his game-style very well and should see his scores shoot up.

Rowan Marshall

Supercoach Price: $557,200

Fantasy Price: $738,000

The St Kilda star is as big a lock as there is this season. He continues to grow every year and has now found a way to play alongside Paddy Ryder and continue to deliver big scores. He comes with a hefty hit to the salary cap but is listed as a forward/ruck which could be key to a coaches success throughout the season.

Slot him away in your forward line and go after a Max Gawn or Brodie Grundy in the number one ruck slot, and if your second ruck goes down and you need a replacement, you will have the big Saint ready and waiting.

Braydon Preuss

Supercoach Price: $303,000

Fantasy Price: $377,000

Preuss will be GWS' number one ruck in 2021 and will likely be given a lot of time to cement his spot. The former Demon is a very good price for someone that will play week in and week out.

His body can be an issue but he is worth every cent at this price in both formats of the game. Preuss averaged 62 fantasy points last year and 63 points in Supercoach, but don't let the past scores hold you back from what's in store for 2021.

Preuss will be the perfect cash-saver for your season and if he doesn't live up to expectations, Marshall will be there to slot into your R2 spot.

Nakia Cockatoo

Supercoach Price: $123,900

Fantasy Price: $243,000

Make or break, this year is make or break. Cockatoo has teased us for so long and we give him one more chance in 2021. He apparently hasn't missed a session this pre-season and looks a live chance for round one.

He shapes as the seasons biggest cash cow if all things go well for him, but don't look to ride him too long, as he could be due for a rest in the opening half of the season.

Wayne Milera

Supercoach Price: $312,200

Fantasy Price: $446,000

One of the many Adelaide players who looks set to benefit from the rebuild. Milera has speed and tricks to burn and looks a good mid-priced asset for your team. A modest fantasy average of just 64 will likely increase along with his midfield minutes.

Another one who could make you some big bucks ahead of the byes, Milera looks like a must have that may slip under the radar for many coaches hoping for a defensive POD in 2021.

Jackson Hately

Supercoach Price: $310,300

Fantasy Price: $486,000

The former Giant is another who looks set to benefit from the Crows rebuild, with Hately moving back to South Australia in a bid to find regular midfield minutes for the Crows. A Fantasy average of 74 and 64 on Supercoach, Hately should see his stocks increase in 2021.

He was one the Giants didn't want to let go, which says a lot. He looks to be another solid cash cow for the upcoming season.
