Jack Newnes lived every footballer's dream when he kicked a goal after the siren to win the game for Carlton on Saturday night.

Newnes' goal was as good a kick after the siren as we have seen, right up there with the 'Miracle on Grass' from Ashley McGrath and James Hird's snap late in the last quarter against the Eagles after the week from hell.

Or who can forget Tom Hawkins long bomb to continue the 'Kennett curse' over the Hawks?

We've counted down the 10 most clutch plays from this century, putting an emphasis on the big stage and finals moments. The time and importance of the game, meaning of the result and even the location and aesthetics of the moment matters.

There have been some spectacular moments that will live in football folklore, moments that are bigger than just the game that they happen in. Moments that define a career and a teams success and failures.

7. Luke Shuey goal vs Port Adelaide, 2017 Elimination Final

Luke Shuey stepped up not only after the full time siren, but after two periods of extra time. Add to that, he did it at the Adelaide Oval with the loyal Port fan base making all the noise the world.

Throw in the fact that he earned the free kick by somewhat forcing the tackler to get him around the neck with a drop of the knees and rise of the shoulder. Nevertheless, he stepped up and slotted the sausage.
