As the first month of fixtures drew to a close last Sunday evening, a belief morphed into empirical truth - 2021 is already rivalling last year in terms of unpredictability.

If you don't believe me, just take a look at the current ladder.

With the second month of the marathon season set to commence tonight, another set of questions remain ahead of both the men in the hot seat and their disciples in studded boots.

Whether flying high or having to continually dig deep for no reward, here are the latest set of quandaries facing each of the AFL's 18 teams.

Western Bulldogs

How high are their next set of hurdles?

At 4-0, and looking like the most dangerous side in the competition, Luke Beveridge's Bulldogs have not only jumped out of the blocks well, but they have cleared their first set of hurdles with consummate ease.

Although the Whitten Oval men have set the competition's pace, alongside the Demons and Swans, the finish line remains out of sight, with another lot of barriers now in their path.

On paper, the Bulldogs' second month of fixtures appears slightly easier than those they have already completed.

This weekend, they face the Suns at home, with logic and form suggesting they will cruise to victory. Clashes against the stunted Giants and the recently tamed Tigers follow in the next fortnight, but again, on current form, Bevo's boys will be eyeing wins. Rounding out the second month of the season is a clash with Carlton that will prove interesting if Carlton can continue their upward trajectory. However, with the game fixtured for Marvel Stadium, the ladder leaders should collect another four points.

Prior to the commencement of the season, I tipped the Bulldogs to finish the first month of the year undefeated, and with no reason to fault them, I am backing them to double the dosage by the end of Round 8.
