All 18 clubs have iconic jumper numbers vacant ahead of the 2025 AFL season, meaning new recruits and draftees could be in line to carry on a club legend's legacy.
Arguably, Richmond's nine greatest-ever players have their numbers up for grabs as the Tigers enter a period of change, with their early draft selections a chance to don some famous digits from next season.
Brisbane also has the numbers of many club stalwarts available and could be one of several sides that give father-son selections their dad's number.
Here are the most famous jumper numbers vacant at each AFL club ahead of 2025.
Adelaide
The retirement of Rory Sloane sees the famous No.9 jumper available, with two-time premiership player and 300-gamer Tyson Edwards having also donned that jumper across his career.
No. 17 being available means father-son draft prospect Tyler Welsh could grab his dad's old number, which was also worn by Bernie Vince.
Former defender Ben Rutten's 25 is also vacant.
Brisbane
The departure of premiership forward Joe Daniher has the No.3 up for grabs that being the same number worn by triple premiership legend Michael Voss.
The Lions didn't hand out the No.10 last year following Daniel Rich's retirement, meaning father-son Levi Ashcroft could land his old man's locker to be two down from brother Will.
Jaxon Prior's delisting has seen club great Simon Black's No.20 made vacant, with the No.22 - formerly worn by Chris Scott and, most recently, Harry Sharp - also free.
Carlton
The Blues are another club who have father-son talent coming through who could secure their father's jumper number, with one of Scott Camporeale's twins, Ben or Lucas, a chance to snatch the No.16.
Elsewhere, the No.7 (worn by Brett Ratten and Wayne Johnstone) is sure to be in demand, while other famous numbers in 21 (Craig Bradley, Rod Austin), 22 (Harry Vallence), 28 (Peter Jones) and 44 (Justin Madden) equally desirable.
Collingwood
The No.9 and 12 jumpers will be the most sought-after for Collingwood's new recruits, with the latter made famous by Ross Dunne and Charlie Gibbs.
The No.27 was worn by Team of the Century member Murray Weideman, while 28 (Len Thompson, Gavin Crosisca), 34 (Mick McGuane), and 39 (Heath Shaw) have some good history behind them.
Essendon
Sam Weideman's delisting has left the No.10 available, with that jumper worn by the famous John Coleman as well as Garry Foulds, Gary O'Donnell and Mark McVeigh, among others.
The No.21 - worn by Ken Fletcher and most recently Dyson Heppell - is also up for grabs, as is Scott Lucas' No.25. One locker down, the No.26 is free, which was worn by Mark Thompson and Cale Hooker.
Fremantle
Fremantle left the No.16 jumper free for the entire of 2024 following games record holder David Mundy's retirement. That locker, along with the 15 (Ryan Crowley) and 18 (Luke McPharlin), will also be desired.
Coach Justin Longmuir's old jumper No. 20 is free also, as is Roger Hayden's No.43.
Geelong
Geelong has a bevy of iconic numbers available to new recruits, with retired champion forward Tom Hawkins' No.26 - also worn by his dad Jack and Barry Stoneham - free.
Triple premiership hero Jimmy Bartel's No.3 is also available, as is club great Steve Johnson's No.20. Former premiership captain Tom Harley's old jumper No.2 is up for grabs, too, following Zach Tuohy's retirement.
Goalkicking legend Doug Wade's No.23 is free after Gary Rohan's departure, while the No.19 - worn by George Todd and Neville Bruns - is vacant too.
Gold Coast
The vacancies are often dire at the Suns, given their limited time in the league, but the No.12 should be worn with pride following Sam Day's career. The inaugural Sun left the club this year after 155 games.
The No.1 has been vacant for 12 months and was once worn by Jaeger O'Meara and Pearce Hanley.
GWS
The Giants left their No.1 jumper free for a year after Phil Davis' retirement, with that number potentially collected by a new recruit this off-season.
Fellow inaugural GWS players Nick Haynes (No.19) and Adam Kennedy (No.40) have departed the club and have their lockers free for the first time.
Hawthorn
The Hawks have had a few famous numbers claimed by emerging stars in recent years, and 2025 could be no different.
The No.24 - worn by Chris Langford, Peter Knights, Ben Stratton and Trent Croad - is available after Denver Grainger-Barras' delisting this off-season. That could go to one of Josh Battle or Tom Barrass following their moves from St Kilda and West Coast, respectively.
Melbourne
Angus Brayshaw's unfortunate retirement has seen the No.10 jumper available at the Demons, with the premiership player's locker likely to be sought after.
The No.12 - worn by Todd Viney and Jack Mueller - is another famous jumper up for grabs.
Premiership player John Beckwith wore the No.30, and Alex Neal-Bullen also found success in the same number, with the club hoping to bear similar fruit with its next occupant.
North Melbourne
Jaidyn Stephenson's retirement has seen Wayne Schwass' famous No.2 made free for the 2025 season, while early numbers one and five are also up for grabs.
The departure of Charlie Lazzaro has seen John Longmire's old jumper - No.35 - become available, with that number being the same worn by recent recruit Caleb Daniel during his time with the Western Bulldogs.
Port Adelaide
Departed All-Australian Dan Houston was one of three Power players to have strong careers in the No.5 jumper, with Brendon Lade and Matthew Broadbent wearing it before him.
The No.17 jumper - worn by premiership player Stuart Dew - is free, as is the No.42, worn by former captain Tom Jonas before he switched to the No.1.
Richmond
Where to start with the Tigers? Arguably, their nine best ever players have their old numbers available as the club potentially uses eight first-round draft picks this month.
2024 retirees Dustin Martin (No.4 - also worn by Royce Hart) and Dylan Grimes (No.2 - Also worn by Darren Gaspar) are now free, while fellow departures in Shai Bolton (No.29 - also worn by Kevin Bartlett) and Daniel Rioli (No.17 - also worn by Jack Dyer) have become available too.
Add in the already vacant No.8 (Jack Riewoldt, Michael Roach and Dick Clay), No.9 (Trent Cotchin and Wayne Campbell), No.11 (Joel Bowden) and No.12 (Jack Titus and Matthew Richardson), and there's plenty to go around at Punt Road.
St Kilda
After handing out the No.2 and No.4 last year, the Saints have another iconic jumper available in the No.18 - worn by Kevin 'Cowboy' Neale and Brendon Goddard.
The No.26 (worn by Nick Dal Santo), the No.6 (worn by Seb Ross and David Grant) and the No.31 (worn by Jeff Sarau) are also free for new Saints ahead of the 2025 season.
Sydney
Sydney are yet to find a new home for the No.23 jumper, which was worn by Lance Franklin on 171 occasions before he retired at the end of the 2023 season. That number was also worn by club great Ron Clegg.
Former captain Luke Parker's move to North Melbourne has seen his No.26 jumper become available, with Stephen Wright also wearing that digit. Club great Jared Crouch's No.28 has also become available for the 2025 season.
Sam Reid's retirement has seen the No.20 (also worn by Jim Cleary) made free, while the No.25 is available and was previously donned by Ted Richards and Barry Round.
West Coast
The famous No.3 jumper is up for grabs for the first time since 2010 after Andrew Gaff's retirement. Only three players have featured in a game for the club in that jumper, the others being Chris Judd and Chris Mainwaring.
West Coast held off handing the No.17 jumper to anyone for this year, with the locker that was previously home to Josh Kennedy and Guy McKenna perhaps being taken for 2025.
Jack Darling's exit has seen the No.27 (also worn by Glen Jakovich) become free, while the No. 23 (worn by Darren Glass) is also up for grabs.
Western Bulldogs
The loss of Bailey Smith has sent the iconic No.6 jumper made available at Whitten Oval, with that jumper previously worn by games record holder Brad Johnson and club great Charlie Sutton.
The exit of premiership duo Jack Macrae and Caleb Daniel have made the No.11 and No.35 jumpers free, with both players lifting the significance of those lockers.
Fellow 2016 premiership player Liam Picken's old jumper, No.42, is also available following Alex Keath's retirement.
