The Footy Show will return for one night only when Eddie McGuire, Sam Newman and Trevor Marmalade team up again in September.
The trio will form the crux of the Grand Final Footy Show to air on Thursday September 26.
“For one night only we’re putting the band back together again,” McGuire told the Herald Sun.
“It’s going to be great fun and an old-fashioned Footy Show. We said we’d do a couple of specials during the year.
“There’s be the World Cup of cricket and the Ashes coming up on Nine, so we’re just going to pull all our resources into doing the big one.
“It’s the great Grand Final show that we all know and love.”
The Footy Show was axed earlier this season after an attempt at revamping the decades-long show yielded record-low ratings.
A major failing of the re-imagined offering was the overhauled cast. The Grand Final special will treat viewers to the original gang.
“Sam (Newman) is one of the great performers and we haven’t seen enough of him,” McGuire said.
“People are keen to and he’ll be ready to go.
“It’s not about any of us, it’s about the biggest game of the year.
"We’re looking to do a fantastic show that pays homage to the show over the last quarter of a century.”
