There's no surprise that Giants ruckman Kieren Briggs' game style emulates that of former enforcer Shane Mumford.

After all, he is his mentor and coach.

But Briggs is putting his own personal touch on what he declares as "taking the aggression stance from 'Mummy'" but with a twist.

The 25-year-old was plucked from the depths of Western Sydney through the Giants Academy with Pick 34 in 2018, but has taken some time to reach the heights he currently sits at.

Before that sliding doors moment, the Giants trialled a host of talls to fill the ruck positions. Ex-Crow Sam Jacobs. Eagle Matthew Flynn. Former Demon and Roo Braydon Preuss. Even Mumford before he retired at the end of 2021.

They attempted to bridge the time before the moment Briggs was ready for the top flight.

And Round 10 against St Kilda in 2023 was that moment. 16 disposals, 22 hitouts, four clearances and a goal against the talented Rowan Marshall.

It was followed by an impressive string of performances where the Pennant Hills product rarely missed a game up until this point.

"I got my opportunity around Round 10 in 2023 off the back of tough conversations with coaches," Briggs told Zero Hanger.

"But the belief from (Adam Kingsley) Kingers to let me play week-in, week-out and just grown in confidence and self belief to play at the top level."

Briggs is known for his combative nature in the contest, recording incredible hitout numbers as well as assisting in the clearance battles to will the Giants forward.

Last year, the GWS tall ranked second for clearances among ruckmen (only to Tristan Xerri), and was rated well above average in hitouts to advantage (8.4 per game), tackles (4.8), contested possessions (10.2) and pressure acts (14).

At his best, 'Mummy' would record similar efforts.

"He's still my ruck coach, so he gets to nitpick my game each week, which sometimes can be annoying," Briggs joked.

"But he wants the best out of me. He's been great for my development as a player and as a person.

"I probably try and take the aggression stance from 'Mummy', but I'd like to think I'm a little bit more athletic."

Briggs isn't the only Giant that is taking leaps and bounds in recent times.

Riding shotgun to Finn Callaghan in the midfield, Briggs has been super impressed with his teammate's development in such a short space of time.

Callaghan was quick to deny any advances from rival clubs, penning a monster contract extension until the end of 2029.

Fellow onballers Tom Green and Josh Kelly continue their extraordinary consistency, while captain Toby Greene is used sparingly through the centre.

"We're forever evolving. We've seen what Finn's been able to bring this year. Tom's obviously a superstar of the competition," Briggs said of the midfield group.

"It's been exciting to see (our mids go to work). But Finn mainly, to grow this year. I think he'll get a lot more attention from other teams.

"But we'll continue to work on our synergy. We're a real close group up here, the whole, but especially the midfield.

"We've had coaches and things sort of come and go, and guys, especially from other clubs, say we're the closest group they've been a part of."

Briggs, who is contracted until the end of 2026, wasn't scared in alluding to the fact that he wants to remain at the club long term, although discussions have yet to commence.

"If that opportunity comes up, Sydney is home for me. I love Sydney."
