With the big news breaking today that Leo Messi will be leaving Barcelona, the sporting world has gone into overdrive suggesting where he may end up.
From Paris, to Manchester, to even Los Angeles, there's no shortage of quality internet work being done. While in soccer, it's not uncommon for players to move, the size of the name in this scenario warrants a double take.
It's gotten us thinking. Over the years, the AFL has increasingly gone down this path, with player movement in the off-season becoming the norm.

With this in mind, we decided to take a look at the some of the biggest moves the AFL has ever seen.
Not just in size of the name, the money or the destination. But in terms of the impact that it had. Here are the ones we think have created the biggest splash over the years.
5. Gary Ablett Jnr
The worst kept secret in footy was confirmed when God Jnr left Geelong for the Gold Coast. Having a mega deal on the table, (not to mention rumours the Suns would also give younger brother Nathan a spot on their list) Ablett Jnr couldn't say no.
Already in the conversation as one of the best players of all time, Gary further enhanced his reputation at the Suns. Carrying a young squad to such a point that he quite literally destroyed his shoulder, the move was the biggest we'd seen at the time.
Winning another Brownlow Medal in a team that lost just about every week was spectacular. While the Free Agency rule the AFL had conveniently implemented at the time the Suns were created served as a notice.
Players would now have much more freedom of choice in their careers, this move became the benchmark. Nowadays it's becoming common to see big names move every season.
