Sydney's 2024 grand final defeat - and their second in three years - will leave a feeling of hollowness and a great deal of 'what if'.
But following a seven-hour review of the 60-point loss in the decider, and the rigours of a gruelling pre-season training under the new instruction of Dean Cox, Swans captain Callum Mills is confident his side is prepared to go again.
Speaking at the club's season launch on Monday, Mills spoke of the one "particular moment" he knew his men were ready to go back into battle, despite the heartbreak of last year.
"I remember there was a particular moment," Mills said.
"It was day one of the new year: the annual 2km time trial. For context, this is one of the most dreaded days on the AFL calendar.
"Strangely enough, you feel more nervous for this than an actual game. It's a brutal test, one maximal effort for as hard as you can possibly go.

"We finished, we gave everything, and then Coxy had a little surprise for us. 'Get back to the start line, we're going again'.
"Lactic acid was burning, legs were screaming, but when I looked around, I didn't see any doubt.
"I didn't see any hesitation. I looked around and saw steely eyes, determined faces and a group that was willing and ready to give it all, again."
Sydney has been on the receiving end of consistent heartbreak in the tenure of John Longmire, claiming one premiership from five grand final appearances.
But in true 'Bloods' fashion, their incredible record and steely reserve should place them among the contenders again.
