The conclusion of the home and away season means the opening 10 AFL Draft selections for this year's count are locked in.

While the trade period can be utilised to cash in these selections for attainable targets, most clubs won't be looking to part ways with their opening picks - especially given the strength of this year's pool of prospects.

Richmond has locked in the opening selection of November's intake after taking out the wooden spoon, while Fremantle will round out the opening 10 picks with successive selections, having acquired Collingwood's opening pick.

Each club will have their list of draft targets they hope slip to their early selections, and with the parity in the top echelon of this year's class, it's set to be a fascinating start to this year's National Draft.

We've looked at the settled top 10 picks in this year's draft order and matched up one prospect to each selection.

VIEW: CURRENT 2024 AFL DRAFT ORDER

Pick 1: Richmond

Finn O'Sullivan

Position: Midfielder
Height:
182cm
State: Victoria
Club: Koroit

The Tigers are set to make their first Pick 1 selection since Brett Deledio two decades ago, with the Punt Road club set to have a bevy of worthy options to pick from.

O'Sullivan might be the kid for Richmond, with his high upside still evident despite an injury-interrupted draft campaign.

The Vic Country ball-winner entered 2024 as arguably the top name for his class, and while others have had more of a chance to strengthen their stocks, O'Sullivan has looked classy at the coalface throughout his limited opportunities.

O'Sullivan was among the handful of prospects who pulled on the Tigers jumper in the VFL this year, with the teenager kicking two goals from a dozen disposals against Sandringham earlier this month.

Fellow Richmond VFL trialists Jagga Smith and Harvey Langford also got a look, with the former taking the most of his chance and is another likely to be high up on Blair Hartley's list.

Others to consider: Jagga Smith, Harvey Langford, Josh Smillie

Pick 2: North Melbourne

Luke Trainor

Position: Key Defender
Height:
194cm
State: Victoria
Club: Old Brighton Grammarians

The Roos could decide to split their early selection, with Trainor perhaps the most suitable for North Melbourne while potentially being available a few spots back on the draft board.

Trainor is perhaps the only non-midfielder among the top echelon of teenagers this year, with the son of 100-goal great Doug Wade often among the best performers in stints with the Sandringham Dragons, Vic Metro and the AFL Academy.

The athletic interceptor is a clean ball user for a player of his height and has proven to be a viable option in the forward half of the field if needed.

Others to consider: Josh Smillie, Harvey Langford, Finn O'Sullivan

Pick 3: West Coast

Sid Draper

Position: Midfielder
Height:
180cm
State: South Australia
Club: Willunga

After the Tigers and Kangaroos make their selections, West Coast will still have plenty of starring midfield prospects to pick from, and Draper might just be No.1 on their list overall.

The South Australian has been sensational for South Adelaide at the senior SANFL level this year, collecting 23 or more disposals per outing in a five-game stretch while averaging over six tackles and five clearances each game in that run.

The agile and speedy ball magnet was slow to get his 2024 campaign up and running due to injury, but once he clicked into gear he hasn't looked back, adding to his SA MVP honours last year as a bottom-ager.

Others to consider: Josh Smillie, Finn O'Sullivan, Jagga Smith

Pick 4: Adelaide

Jagga Smith

Position: Midfielder
Height:
181cm
State: Victoria
Club: Richmond

The fact a club sitting fourth in the pecking order could come away with a talent as good as Smith speaks to the pedigree of this year's prospects.

There's a good chance Smith is the first named called come draft night, but any side with a top-five or six pick will get access to a teenager worthy of falling in the same spot.

Adelaide will have their eyes on one of their midfielders on offer, with Smith a good chance to be picked if available to the Crows, while local young gun Sid Draper might be the one if he ends up sliding to the selection.

Smith will add a nice edge to Matthew Nicks' engine room, with his crafty inside work and ability to damage away from the contest among the many promising traits for the Oakleigh Chargers talent.

Others to consider: Sid Draper, Murphy Reid

Pick 5: Melbourne

Harvey Langford

Position: Midfielder
Height:
190cm
State: Victoria
Club: Mount Martha

The Demons slide into the top five of the draft due to their late-season fall and the Saints' win on the final day of the home and away season, with their early selection to add to their pair of first-round picks from 2023.

Melbourne's list management team will be licking their lips if Langford is still up for grabs at Pick 5, with the 2024 Larke Medal winner a good chance to go fall to any of the four clubs with earlier picks.

Langford's stocks have soared this year and continue to rise as the draft nears, with his most recent performance seeing the teenager collect 33 disposals and booting four goals against the Gippsland Power.

A workhorse across the field to find space and damage the opposition with his smart ball work, Langford took out MVP honours for Vic Country this year while averaging 25.5 disposals, 7.7 contested possessions, 6.2 marks and 6.2 clearances across the carnival.

Others to consider: Josh Smillie, Luke Trainor, Harry Armstrong

Pick 6: Gold Coast

Josh Smillie

Position: Midfielder
Height:
194cm
State: Victoria
Club: Park Orchards

Smillie was the bright starter to this year's draft season, putting up massive performances for the Eastern Ranges to kickstart a prolific Talent League campaign.

While his dominant frame in midfield sees him positioned as a contested bull, Smillie has proven to be a versatile asset across his junior career and could be utilised outside of the centre of the field to start his career.

There is a caveat that comes with the Suns' first selection, though, with the Queensland club first needing to get their ducks aligned to attain the needed draft points to secure access to Academy talent Leonardo Lombard, who is another top 10 prospect.

There is a world where the Suns secure an early selection like Smillie and then use their other two first-round picks - likely splitting them for later selections - to acquire Lombard.

A potential trade play for Richmond's Daniel Rioli would throw a spanner in the works, likely leaving them with only Lombard from the opening night of the National Draft.

Others to consider: Jagga Smith, Sid Draper

Pick 7: St Kilda

Murphy Reid

Position: Midfielder
Height:
180cm
State: Victoria
Club: South Melbourne Districts

The Saints held a top-five draft pick before Jack Higgins' match-winning major against Carlton on Sunday, meaning their fate, and potentially that of Reid's, may have been altered dramatically.

The Vic Metro MVP has seen his prospects rise across the course of the year, with Reid consistently a damaging piece at the National Championships and in the Talent League.

The attacking midfielder has flourished for the Sandringham Dragons in a midfield unit that has also consisted of potential Pick 1 talent Levi Ashcroft and now-sidelined front-half threat Taj Hotton.

But it has been Reid's efforts at the higher level for Vic Metro that have done most of the talking, averaging 24.5 disposals and a goal per game to lead his side through an undefeated carnival.

Reid's MVP honours saw him claim the award ahead of teammates Ashcroft, Luke Trainor and Jagga Smith.

Others to consider: Sam Lalor, Harvey Langford

Pick 8: Essendon

Jack Whitlock

Position: Key Forward
Height:
200cm
State: Victoria
Club: Shepparton

Much like the Suns, the Bombers will need to get their affairs in order ahead of the National Draft's opening night given they hold a top 10 draft selection and also have access to an Academy-tied talent who could fetch a bid soon after.

Next Generation Academy livewire Isaa Kako will likely earn a rival bid in the first round, with Essendon likely to assess how they can come away with multiple early draft selections.

It's likely the Bombers place attention on having the needed draft points outside of Pick 8 so they can make one selection for Kako is officially a Bomber.

Murray Bushrangers tall Jack Whitlock might be the man in Essendon's sights as they potentially look at a key forward 12 months on from drafting Nate Caddy.

Whitlock has enjoyed a tremendous second half to the season, booting 12 goals in his past five Talent League games while averaging just under five marks and 20 disposals in that period.

Others to consider: Harry Armstrong, Jobe Shanahan, Bo Allan

Pick 9: Fremantle

Tobie Travaglia

Position: Defender-Midfielder
Height:
187cm
State: Victoria
Club: Sandhurst

With two picks in a row, the Dockers will have plenty to consider to round out the opening 10 selections of the draft.

After claiming the best and fairest at the Bendigo Pioneers last year ahead of No.1 pick Harley Reid, dashing flanker Tobie Travalgia could be the first of three first-round picks for Fremantle this November.

The Vic Country star has steadily built his case as a top 10 prospect this year and was a constant among his side's best at the U18s National Championships, averaging 21.8 disposals and 6.3 marks in a successful carnival at half-back and in midfield.

The Bendigo teenager would offer some dash, speed and flair on the outside of the Dockers' workhorse engine room or could allow the likes of Jordan Clark or Heath Chapman to shift further up the field.

Others to consider: Sam Lalor, Xavier Lindsay, Murphy Reid

Pick 10: Fremantle (via Collingwood)

Bo Allan

Position: Midfielder-Defender
Height: 191cm
State: Western Australia
Club: Halls Head

A selection that could nicely complement our prediction of the Dockers rolling the dice on Travaglia, with local talent Bo Allan an equally dynamic midfield-defensive option who brings differing traits to the table.

An aerial defensive threat who brings a mean contested game as a taller midfield option as well, Allan has notched up nine WAFL games for Peel Thunder in 2024 to bookend a prolific U18s carnival as captain of Western Australia.

Allan entered the year as a promising medium-sized backman but looks set to enter this year's National Draft as a versatile asset, much like current Dockers star Hayden Young with some extra height.
