There are already six teams that cannot win the premiership, according to former AFL greats Garry Lyon and Tim Watson.
There is currently no clear flag favourite in what shapes as one of the most open seasons in recent memory.
Speaking SEN Breakfast yesterday, Lyon admitted that the race is as open as he's ever seen it putting a line through six clubs.
“I think this the most winnable Grand Final in my time of watching football seriously,” he said.
“I think this is as wide open as I have ever, ever seen the game. It is so winnable, it so winnable. I’ve never seen it more open.
“Clearly Adelaide can’t, Fremantle can’t.
“I don’t think the Swans can win. I don’t think Gold Coast can win. Probably not Essendon and Melbourne.
“The Demons can’t because the Demons can’t do anything forward of the centre, again.”
Watson added: “Essendon can’t win the Grand Final.
“They haven’t shown enough to suggest that they are going to be one the best performers.”
