There has been a number of AFL players who have retired yet changed their mind and eventually retuned to footy.

This list includes players who officially retired.

4. Shane Mumford

The only current player on this list, Shane Mumford has been a key part of the GWS Giants since coming out of retirement.

Mumford joined GWS in 2014, after 100 games across stints with Geelong and Sydney.

At the conclusion of the 2017 season, Mumford retired from AFL footy. The following year, he took up the role of ruck coach at the club before coming out of retirement.

In 2019, Mumford was an important part of the Giants' premiership push, playing 20 home and away games and all finals, including the Grand Final loss.

In the prelim final against Collingwood, Mumford was key to their four-point victory. Despite clearly losing the ruck battle statistically, 14 hit outs to Grundy's 73, Mumford did all the little things, and in the dying stages, sold some candy in the goal square against Scott Pendlebury of all people.
