8. Stuart Dew
Perhaps the most famous return from retirement, Stuart Dew returning to AFL is the stuff of legend.
Dew retired in 2006 after a handy career at Port Adelaide, that included a premiership in 2004.
Dew did not play football at any level in 2007, but announced his desire to return to AFL, and nominated for the 2007 National Draft.
He was selected by Hawthorn at pick 45, which came with much criticism. Dew notably gained weight while away from the sport.
He started off by injuring his hamstring in his second game as a Hawk and missed more games later. However, he was fit and well by finals.
Dew repaid the faith shown in him by Alistair Clarkson, with an unbelievable burst in the Grand Final. With the game still in the balance, Dew kicked two goals and set up another two, which would help win the premiership.
Dew retired in 2009, but his 2008 Grand Final heroics will never be forgotten.
