With the 2024 season in the rear-view mirror, it's time to list the cream of the crop ofย AFLย talent.

We've compiled a list of the top 50 players in the competition, assessing each candidate on a subjective mix of their 2024 production, career pedigree, and future projection.

Ranking an exclusive list ofย AFLย stars has never been more difficult. Each team is littered with candidates on all lines and different players press their case for All-Australian recognition every week.

A plethora of genuine stars have not even made the cut inside the top 50, a handful of names have been included despite interrupted campaigns, while a few have been featured ahead of their time.

10. 31 - Will Ashcroft

At just 20, Ashcroft already boasts a resume most AFL players could only dream of; a premiership, Norm Smith Medal, and Goal of the Year, all in just 31 games.

His return from an ACL injury in 2024 saw him return to form quickly and become arguably the most important piece of Brisbane's premiership run, taking it upon himself to lead the 44-point semi-final comeback against GWS, before being judged best afield in the big one.

Worryingly for the rest of the competition, Ashcroft is poised for an even bigger breakout campaign in 2025, having missed the entire 2023/24 pre-season with his ACL injury. He may even be boosted by the inclusion of his younger brother, Levi.

His well-documented work ethic and leadership are obvious, and pen him as a genuine challenger for Nick Daicos' title as the best young player in the competition with a stellar 2025.
