There are reports Hawthorn duo Jack Gunston and Luke Breust could be on the trade table at the end of the season.
According to Fox Sports' Tom Morris, the Hawks would be willing to listen to offers for Jack Gunston if a first-round pick is put on the table.
Gunston's former manager Ned Guy is the list manager at Collingwood and has a close relationship with Gunston and his wife.
The three-time premiership star is on $600,000-650,000 a season and would likely need to take a pay cut to move to Collingwood, who still need to sort out deals for out-of-contract pair Darcy Moore and Jordan De Goey.
St Kilda are also on the lookout to attract an experienced forward and Gunston's relationship with Jarryd Roughead could be the instigator to a deal being reached.
Luke Breust was shopped around in the 2016 trade period and could yet again find himself on the chopping block as the Hawks look to build for the future.
Former teammate Jordan Lewis believes Geelong would be the ideal destination for Gunston and Carlton would suit Breust.
“If they (the Hawks) were offered a first-round draft pick and Jack wanted to leave – that’s the question that you’ve got to ask him because he is contracted – and go elsewhere to achieve some more success … that (a Geelong move) would be a good fit,” Lewis told Saturday Stretch.
“They’re [Carlton] on the rise and would love that quality small forward and his services.”
The Hawks will need to make a decision on the futures of five of their veterans at the end of the season. Ben McEvoy is contracted until the end of next season, while Shaun Burgoyne announced 2021 will be his final season.
Lewis assessed the future of Paul Puopolo, Ben Stratton, James Frawley, Ricky Henderson and Isaac Smith and believes only Frawley and Smith deserve an extension to their careers.
“With James Sicily going down, they still need that bigger body in defence. So maybe Sicily going down gives Frawley another year.”
“I’d be looking to contract him [Smith] if I was Hawthorn, but I would certainly be asking the question if I was another club that would love to acquire his services. He would fit into the mould of a Melbourne quite nicely – any other side that’s really challenging for the premiership, he would complement any side.”
