Axed Geelong forward Zane Williams has questioned his former club's decision to delist him after just three months on the Cats' list.

Despite being Geelong's newest member of the team, Williams was among five Cats players that were not offered new deals at Kardinia Park last month, seeing his time at the Cattery come to an abrupt end.

The Woodville-West Torrens product was drafted through the 2022 Mid-Season Draft as Geelong's sole selection from the June intake.

Williams played all nine games for Geelong at VFL level before seeing his six-month contract end and not renewed.

Speaking to Sportsday SA, the small forward said he would have liked to have received more opportunities to prove his worth in the top flight.

"Three months isn't long enough to prove yourself, I think I had eight games to prove myself," Williams said.

"I'm still a kid developing, I'm not where near a fully finished product, you'd like a preseason just to prove yourself and get used to a new system.

"I understand that it must have been a tricky spot with list spots. You understand that but when you're a young kid, and I still classify myself as a young kid, you've got to be given time to develop your body.

"Unfortunately I wasn't given that, I don't think it's the end of the road, but it's obviously a bit tough."

Williams has since returned to Woodville-West Torrens for the 2023 season.
