Richmond defender Nathan Broad has secured a one-year contract extension to remain at Tigerland for the 2023 season.

Broad, a Swan Districts product, was nabbed by the Tigers with Pick 67 in the 2015 National Draft and has since played 106 games in Richmond colours, including the club's 2017, 2019 and 2020 premiership triumphs.

The 29-year-old played in all 22 of Richmond's home-and-away fixtures this season; a testament to his durability since arriving at Punt Road.

Broad averaged career-highs this season in disposals per game (17.9) and rebound-50s per game (5.4), as well as ranking number one at Richmond in marks taken.

Broad's meteoric and unexpected rise in the rebound-50s department (a statistic he also ranks tops in at Punt Road) is symbolic of his pre-season commitment to improving the offensive side of his game.

"During the pre-season, I had a look at blokes around me and those that were up and coming," he told richmondfc.com.au.

"I was a bit of a lockdown and defensive player. So, I probably had a bit of a thought to myself that I needed to add another string to my bow.

"It was something I worked hard on over pre-season and have added it to my game now which has been a positive.

"I am very grateful to be going into another finals series and then my eighth season. It is very exciting - I am stoked."

Blair Hartley, Richmond's football talent boss, praised Broad's consistent work ethic since making the tough move from West Australia.

"Nathan has put in a lot of work since coming across from Perth late in 2015 to continually improve his game," he said.

"He has been rewarded with individual and team success across the journey and we are pleased to retain him at the Club for longer.

"We look forward to seeing what he can continue to help us achieve across the next year and beyond."

Broad's Tigers will travel to Brisbane to face the Lions in a do-or-die finals clash at The Gabba this Thursday night.
