Former Port Adelaide star Kane Cornes believes the Tigers should shelve their interest in Gold Coast spearhead Tom Lynch, and instead turn their attention to luring Crows midfielder Rory Sloane.
Sloane - along with Lynch - is one of the game's biggest free agents coming out of contract at the end of the season, and Richmond reportedly still have the salary cap room to sign a big fish, despite re-signing Dustin Martin to a massive contract last season.
“They’ve been linked to Tom Lynch and a lot people are saying they need a forward to help out Jack Riewoldt, but I’ve got a different view, I think Rory Sloane is the man for Richmond,” Cornes told SEN’s Crunch Time on Saturday.
“I think Dustin Martin is the second most dangerous forward in the game behind Lance Franklin.
“If you put Rory Sloane into the Richmond midfield, it allows Martin to spend 70 to 80 per cent of the time forward and he’s a 60-goal forward.
“And for Rory Sloane, wouldn’t it appeal to him to go to a big Victorian club and a side that is going to be around the mark for the next three to four years.”
Richmond are believed to be a serious player in the Lynch stakes, while it is unknown whether or not they are currently actively pursuing Sloane.
