Richmond key forward Tom Lynch has provided an update on his rehabilitation from a foot injury, with the tall target claiming he has his sights set on an Opening Round return
Lynch featured on just four occasions for Richmond throughout the 2023 season, with the dual premiership player injuring his foot during the Tigers' Round 4 loss to theย Western Bulldogs in early April of last season.
Now six months on after going under the knife, Lynch has continued his admittedly conservative road back to action, currently taking to the treadmill before hitting Punt Road's playing surface in the coming week.
"I'm running on AlterG, so that's going well, and then I'll progress in the next week to on grass," Lynch told 7 News.
"(It's) all positive. We've been a little bit conservative at the moment, but my strength and everything is really good."
While a slow and steady return to play has acted as the order of the day, Lynch was happy to plant a flag in the ground, stating he would likely be right for Richmond's opening clash in 65 days.
"I think it (the foot) will be fine for Round 1," Lynch added.
"I'm pretty confident I'll be able to get up to speed pretty quickly."
Richmond's first clash against Gold Coast will take on added significance for Lynch, with the former Sun not only facing his old side but the Tigers set to do battle against Damian Hardwick for the first time since the triple premiership-winning coach's defection to the Sunshine State.
The Tigers and Suns are scheduled to face off at Carrara on Saturday, March 9 in what promises to be a narrative-rich, must-watch clash.
