For what has been a tumultuous decade for the Melbourne Demons, the club looks to have produced a number of players who may just go down as future club legends.

The Dees have only managed to reach September just once in that time, and while the highly sought after top draft selections came their way, only a few have lived up to the hype.

Many of the club's current best have erected from outside of the club's first-round picks or via father-son selection, with the clubs current future relying on those from their more glorified past.

Five players have won the honour of being selected into the league's All-Australian side over the past 10 seasons, with just the seven total selections shared between the quintet.

After going backwards this season, Melbourne will be desperate to start the new decade with a fresher start, hopefully matching the season they had in 2018.

1. Nathan Jones

An obvious selection for the Demons' best player of the decade. Jones has led Melbourne every season since being appointed in 2014, a season where he won his third straight Keith Truscott Medal as the club's best and fairest.

The definition of a true clubman, Jones has proven why he is one of the Dees' all-time great midfielders, featuring in the club's top five for disposals every year this decade, ranking first in touches in five of those seasons.

By Jones' second season with Melbourne, he had already secured a position in the club's best 22 after 21 games at 17 disposals and four tackles per game to go along with 10 goals.

The next season kick-started what would be a dominant run in Melbourne's midfield. Jones soon grew to become a household name in the league and has averaged 20+ touches in every season since 2011.

While the club struggled to even get close to a winning record, Jones was always there to lead his side onto the field and give his all until the final siren.

Jones was awarded as a life member at Melbourne in 2015 and is rated as one of the club's best to ever represent the demons.

Currently holding the record for most career disposals, handballs, clearances, contested possessions, uncontested possessions, inside 50's, goal assists and tackles at Melbourne, Jones has a number of titles to boast about around the club.

Jones also sits second on the club's all-time games tally behind legend David Neitz, with the hard-hitting onballer amassing 286 games in the red and navy blue, meaning he is likely to pass Neitz's record of 306 matches before he calls time on his career.
