FSeptember is the ultimate test for any AFL footballer, where any team can win on any given day.
In the past decade, there have been a plethora of unbelievable finals results and performances, and we've managed to whittle them all down to a top five.
We kick off our top five list with one of the best grand final battles of the modern day. In front of 99,683 fans, Sydney came back from the brink to win by 10 points over the Hawks. The Swans' second premiership of the AFL-era came as an upset due to the form-line coming into the game.
In their previous 15 appearances at the MCG, the Swans had won just one game and were coming up against a Hawthorn side that had won 17 of the past 19 matches. The Hawks also had to wood over the Swans, winning three of their last five match-ups, including a seven-point win at the SCG in round 22.
Despite all the signs pointing to a Hawthorn victory, the minor premiers were foiled by Sydney and their intense defensive pressure, thanks to a famous late goal from Nick Malceski.
Richmond's 2018 season was one of the most dominant in recent memory. The Tigers didn't lose a game in Victoria, finishing the season with 18 wins as they marched their way to the penultimate round after a rousing victory over Hawthorn.
Collingwood also enjoyed a solid season, finishing third with 15 wins, but suffered a qualifying round loss to West Coast and scraped their way past GWS in the semi final. The Pies, who had lost both games against Richmond in 2018, were expected to be swiftly eliminated by the Tigers, but Nathan Buckley's men had other ideas.
Collingwood jumped out the blocks quickly and, led by an unlikely source in Mason Cox, who booted three goals, as the Pies triumphed by 39 points and booked a date with the Eagles in the Grand Final.
Although they finished equal on points with Geelong, Adelaide were the best team of the 2017 season. And after winning their qualifying and preliminary final match-ups by 36 and 61 points respectively, they were strong favourites heading into the final game.
Richmond also performed well throughout 2017, finishing in third spot, enjoying a similarly dominant finals series, with big wins over Geelong and GWS. However, the Tigers were outsiders heading into the decider, with Adelaide's 76-point drubbing in round six fresh in the minds of pundits. Frankly, it was just hard to see this mighty Crows team losing.
After trailing at quarter-time, the Tigers kicked into gear and didn't look back, kicking 14 of the next 16 goals to win by 48 points to secure their first premiership since 1980.
The Dogs' drought-breaking grand final victory over Sydney stunned the AFL world. Despite storming through the first three rounds of finals, the Western Bulldogs still carried the underdog tag into the big dance against the minor premiers.
Sydney were heavy favourites coming into the game, despite losing their qualifying final clash against GWS, after two convincing victories over Adelaide and Geelong. The Swans extensive grand final experience and list full of superstars were expected to do the job over the young pups, who were one the cusp of winning the first premiership outside the top four since 1998.
The Bulldogs finished off their fairytale finals campaign with a captivating two-goal victory over the Swans, breaking the 62-year drought between premierships.
Although the grand final win was an amazing achievement from the underdogs, without this semi final triumph, it would never have happened.
After missing out on a preliminary final spot by one Isaac Smith kick, the Hawks were angry and hungry for a victory.
A loss in the qualifying final didn't stop Hawthorn from tasting premiership glory in 2015 and punters were comfortably expecting them to brush past the seventh placed Bulldogs.
Luke Beveridge and his group were rank outsiders despite beating West Coast in Perth a week before, with the Bulldogs winless in their past eight clashes with the Hawks. With Hawthorn pushing for a chance at a four-peat, the Bulldogs put on an electric second-half display, led by superstar midfielder Marcus Bontempelli, to win by 23 points and march on to a preliminary final against GWS - another game which could have featured on this list.
